This 123-story, skyscraper locates in the southeastern business core of Seoul. The client, Lotte Group, who wants to make this tower a onumental icon of lasting significance, managed well articulated and detailed plan with architects group along with the local authorities. Varied and complex functions of retail, office, residential, hotel and observations floors are housed in a single elegantly curved enclosure. The structure is a gradually tapered cone. Both the plans and sections embody curvatures with such fluidity found in traditional Korean celadon vases or a calligrapher’s brush strokes. This subtle shape, accentuated by the converging pattern of vertical mullions, produces a minimalistic, yet graceful piece of architecture which is also economical and functional.
